Looking good
Lessons from real-life crashes are fed into our product devel op ment, allowing us to create more realistic computer simulations. We carry out numerous simulations every year. Today they are so sophisticated that crash testing is really just a means of verifying what we have already simulated.

Still, crash testing is an important tool in our work. In addition to the crash tests required by authorities around the world, we perform a wide range of demanding tests of our own. Most of them based on common real-life collision scenarios. For example frontal car-to-car collisions with closing speeds of up to 120 km/h, under-ride collisions in which the car slides under the rear of a truck, sideswipe impacts, pole impacts, roll-overs and even moose impacts.

So it´s no surprise that Saab cars are ranked highly in various crash-test scenarios. Like the Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan that became a Gold Award winner in the first-ever “Top Safety Pick" award by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). A best-of-the-best distinction that recognizes car designs that provide the best occupant protection in front, side and rear crashes based on Institute testing. The side-impact test was even performed with a barrier simulating the full-size front of a typical pickup or SUV.

And of course, all the cars in the Saab 9-3 and Saab 9-5 model range have the highest safety rating from EuroNCAP — five stars.
