The role

As part of our Maritime group, the Application Security Engineer will play a key role in furthering the development of Saab’s combat management system solutions across Australian and International Naval customers.

This role will work with various stakeholders to develop and execute strategies, plans and procedures to further improve and mature Saab’s Maritime Development Group’s (MDG) software security practices throughout the Software Development Lifecycle.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Assist in embedding and maintaining an Application Security Engineering function within MDG’s Software Engineering capability.
  • Undertake application security activities including:
    • Security risk assessments and Security code reviews
    • Development of security software requirements
    • Identification of and implementation of security controls
  • Undertake activities in other software and system security engineering activities including:
    • Specification, design, development, maintenance and testing of software components
    • Reviews of software and documentation
    • System security threat analysis/modelling, risk assessments, reviews and documentation
  • Champion and proactively promote a positive cyber culture.
  • Provide consultative, informed and risk-appropriate application security advice and training to MDG’s staff.
  • Provide recommendations and help drive initiatives to help embed security into the software workflow, including automation where appropriate.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office, 9 day fortnight and part time (0.8 FTE minimum) will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in systems/software engineering, computer science, cyber security engineering or related technical discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in similar Application Security Engineering role.
  • Demonstrated experience in software engineering, software development lifecycle and software assurance activities.
  • Broad knowledge across various information security domains and technologies.
  • An understanding of the current trends and developments in software and information security.
  • Proven ability in thinking laterally, identifying risks and applying analytical skills to develop appropriate options for integrated security controls.

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
