Oil & Gas, Renewables, Telecoms, Salvage, Hydro & Civil, Aquaculture, Marine Science, Seabed Minerals, Nuclear, Leisure & Tourism, Security & Emergency, Defence.

The Job:

The HSE manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of health, safety and environmental compliance within the Saab Seaeye organisation.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • The development, maintenance and ownership of the company’s HSE policies

  • Monitor the implementation of HSE policies and propose improvements where appropriate

  • Implementation of HSE continuous improvement in line with business objectives

  • Identify and manage HSE development needs and training for all staff

  • In collaboration with HR, ensure new employee receive HSE training as part of their induction

  • Coordinate the company’s HSE internal audit and inspection programmes

  • Provide input to the Management Review meetings and company performance metrics relating to the HSE management

  • Provide assistance during preparation for, and participate in, audits conducted by the company’s customers and chosen certification bodies

  • Provide support and guidance to the management team on HSE issues

  • Work closely with all departments within the company to communicate HSE policies

  • Identify hazards and conduct and review risk assessments at project and departmental level

  • Ensure any offsite working (for example ROV “setting to work” and sea trials) at customer or other locations is adequately risk assessed

  • Monitor the company’s impact on the environment through, for example, disposal of waste and use of energy reporting

  • Proactively encourage environmental awareness and influence the company’s policies and business decisions accordingly

  • Establish environmental considerations throughout the Saab Seaeye value chain from design to end of life disposal

  • Ensure that Saab Seaeye meet the wider Saab minimum level of compliance for HSE

  • Participation in  6S activities and audits on behalf of HSE

  • Provide input and support to customer bid preparation and new product development projects

  • Manage the company’s REACH exposure through the new product development process

  • Keep abreast of sector legal, technical and contractual trends

  • Ensure corrective actions are identified, implemented , monitored and reviewed

General accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • To maintain a professional and supportive relationship with team members and other departments in order to deliver business and delivery objectives or deadlines.

  • To carry out any other duties as detailed by your line manager from time to time.

  • To keep good time management to minimise any wasted time and maximise productivity and effectiveness.

Quality, health, safety and environment (QHSE):

  • Cooperate with the company to achieve a healthy, safe and sustainable working environment

  • Work in ways that ensure your own safety and that of others; “Do the right thing even when no one is looking.”

  • Report any incidents, near misses  or other health, safety and environmental concerns

  • Deliver all products and services in line with Saab Seaeye quality standards to ensure we meet our customer requirements and highlight any quality concerns or potential improvements.

Essential Skills:

  • 5-10 years in a manufacturing environment

  • Experienced in internal auditing

  • Worked with (and being audited by) external accreditation bodies

  • Detailed knowledge of ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001

  • HSE related qualification (e.g. via NEBOSH)

  • Environmental related qualification (e.g. IEMA Cert in environmental management)

  • Excellent motivator,  team builder and the ability to drive cultural transformation

Desirable skills:

  • Knowledge of the offshore energy market

  • Exposure to PUWER/COSHH assessment alongside DSE/PPE
