Intern, Systems Engineer (Fall 2023)

Saab, Inc. has a Co-op/Intern (Fall 2023, August - December) opportunity in Systems Engineering for product development in East Syracuse, NY. Our team designs, develops, and improves state-of-the-art products for Air Traffic Surveillance and Air Traffic Management systems.

As a Systems Engineering Co-op, you will:

  • Apply your coursework by solving practical engineering problems.

  • Develop experience in product design engineering skills.

  • Analyze, integrate, and troubleshoot complex electronic and software systems.

  • Be part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team.

  • Support customers and our own engineers with system deployments throughout the world

Our sensor products incorporate software defined radio technology employing custom analog and digital electronics, firmware, and embedded software. Our systems use virtualized processing to execute custom software applications that identify, locate, and communicate with aircraft and vehicles throughout the world. Our technologies include air traffic controller display systems, multilateration, surface movement radar, ADS-B, GNSS, target tracking, sensor fusion, embedded and server Linux environments, IP networking, etc.


 

Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate will have:

  • 2-3 years working towards a bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or mathematics from an accredited institution or relevant military education & training.

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Expertise desired:

  • Familiar with systems containing software, network, firmware, and/or electronic components.

  • Matlab, C++, Java or other programming experience.

  • Linux and/or IP networking system skills.

  • Familiar with RF or electronic test equipment.

In addition to a competitive hourly rate, Saab Inc. offers a sign-on bonus to off-set housing expenses for Co-ops residing outside the typical office commuting distance.

Citizenship Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident (green card holder), or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
