Inventory Control Specialist  (Halifax)


12 month contract - strong possibility of permanency

Purpose of the Position

The Inventory Control Specialist within Country Unit Canada is responsible for assisting in the general operations of the warehouse and managing inventory, returns and completed orders in the system.  General warehouse operation duties includes stocktaking, maintaining and coordinating international and domestic shipping.

Internal / Purpose

Conduct warehouse activities / projects; support the Service Manager & Warehouse Technician

External / Purpose

Customer and DND (Department of National Defense) interaction on all levels from end users, industry and business partners to government, relationship management

Principal accountabilities

  • Responsible for inputting and maintaining the internal inventory database
  • Follow the process of Transport Canada shipping regulations
  • Assist in inventory control, issue and receipt of parts
  • Liaise with service providers and suppliers
  • Assist in  shipping of parts domestically and internationally
  • Conduct audits and stocktaking activities
  • Verify materials received against manifests, delivery receipts, routing slips or bills of lading
  • Process and prepare the distribution and shipment of Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT)
  • Unpack boxes, cartons and other containers, disassemble and distribute unit loads received
  • Must be able to lift up 50 LBs
  • Collaborate with other Saab stakeholders in relevant cases
  • Work in alignment with Saab’s policies and directives
  • Other tasks within the Country Unit, relevant to the role as a TBD, and agreed upon between the Service Manager and Head of PMO.

Required Experience

  • High school diploma
  • An understanding of product cataloguing system or willingness to learn
  • Experience in having served the Canadian Armed Forces is an asset but not a requirement
  • Knowledge of the maintenance procedures associated with the electrical and / or mechanical systems is an asset
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain/retain a Canadian NATO Secret level clearance as well as Controlled Goods.

  • Proactive self-starter; self-motivated individual with a positive and ambitious attitude. A team player but with strong initiative to work independently as required.
  • Possess an ability to adapt to different and changing situations


  • The TBD reports to the Head of PMO and is mandated within the role to carry out the work as described above.
