Job Description:
Saab is seeking a Lead Proposal Professional to join the U.S. Marketing and Sales team. The location of this position is flexible; the successful candidate will have the ability to work remotely (Eastern Time Zone preferred) or onsite in the East Syracuse, NY office.
The individual in this role will work on a variety of proposals for all business segments, with a primary focus on U.S. defense products and support the civil domain as needed. This is a challenging position in a fast-paced and crucial part of the business development process. It offers a chance to support a variety of the Saab product solutions, work with all levels of staff, management, and executives in a very hands-on way, as well as demonstrate leadership, exercise creativity, and develop a broad range of experience.
We are looking for an individual with a solid understanding of the proposal process, as well as business awareness of financial and contractual issues. Successful applicants will require the ability to lead teams, interact with a variety of internal and external resources, work independently, and apply judgment throughout the proposal development process to manage risk and ensure clear communication. While we are looking for an experienced professional who can take a lead role in defense work, our proposal managers are very hands on, meaning creating templates, compliance matrices, and supporting documents.
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Manage the successful development of compliant, competitive, cogent, and compelling proposals through effective collaboration across teams that include internal staff, corporate partners, consultants, and supporting vendors
Communicate and coordinate with capture manager/Lead to understand bid strategy and associated win themes, overall story, features and benefits of the proposed solution
Review bid request documents and determine what should be included in response to RFPs, RFIs, Sources Sought, and sub-contracting required data calls
Establish proposal schedules and monitor assignments and adherence to schedule
Coordinate teams of proposal responsible individuals (RIs) in document revision process
Use computer software to manage proposal documents and boilerplate materials
Basic mentorship and training of capture team members in all aspects of proposal process
Guidance of other proposal center staff when needed
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a related discipline is required. Master's degree is a plus.
15+ years of business experience with a significant portion directly related to proposal development.
Strong focus on analyzing and understanding Federal RFPs and preparing documentation for kickoff shortly after RFP release.
Experience with the Shipley Proposal process a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent teamwork and team management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
Business experience with financial and contracts processes.
If remote, occasional travel to company headquarters may be required.
