Job Description:
Rapidly growing Saab Inc. Land Systems division is seeking a dynamic, multi-discipline Engineering Functional Manager with experience in weapon systems engineering design and production support. The primary function of the role is to provide engineering functional management of a multi-discipline, geographically diverse team of approximately 20 engineers, including systems, integration and test, mechanical, electrical, and software. The Manager will collaborate with program management teams, division’s chief engineer, human resources, and sister divisions’ engineering functional management to support execution of existing programs, as well as to assist with Land Systems’ engineering organization growth and engineering alignment with the future business development. Travel is required, mainly domestic and some international. Currently the position is remote home office with travel; relocation may be required to the future facilities’ location, at this time TBD.
Responsibilities include:
Provide functional management to multi-discipline engineering team.
Assign appropriate personnel to projects and programs; recruit staff as necessary to meet business demands.
Provide oversight, guidance, mentorship and coaching to personnel in the performance of their tasks.
Manage performance review and career development processes and conduct cyclical compensation reviews.
Develop engineering training and professional development opportunities and execution strategies.
Ensure personnel adherence to established company processes and procedures, provide feedback and contribute to updates to processes, forms, and templates.
Support cost estimating activities, including proposals, IRAD, capital, and overhead budget developments.
Ensure accountability for creation of accurate technical, cost and schedule targets.
Help to assess technical risks and identify risk mitigation strategies within relevant disciplines.
Actively assist Land Systems leadership team in long-term engineering staffing planning and strategy development, including establishment of engineering home location, labs, and facilities.
Contribute to Land Systems’ technology roadmap planning from engineering capability perspective.
Generate budgets and requests for engineering function group, including overhead, capital, software/tool subscriptions, and training.
Together with Land Systems engineering leadership, assist other divisions’ efforts with engineering staffing efforts.
Compensation Range: $154,300- $204,500
The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.
Skills and Experience:
Minimum Bachelor of Science/Arts in Engineering and 15 years of experience in related field, or equivalent combination of advanced degree and experience.
Hands-on, direct experience in multi-discipline engineering management in the field of weapon systems development, production and sustainment.
Excellent leadership and communication skills across the function, as well as with leadership teams, peers, subordinates, and business partners, domestically and internationally, in-person and remotely.
Working experience with DoD and industry engineering processes, procedures, requirements, tools, and practices.
Working experience with recruiting, hiring, performance reviews, career development processes and other staffing functions.
Experience and familiarity with other company functions operations, such as human resources, finance, supply chain, etc.
Self-starter, working with minimum direction.
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance (minimum, existing clearance a plus).
International and domestic travel is required, up to 30%.
