Job Description:
The Quality and Continuous Improvement Manager will be responsible for the Quality function and related programs in our new facility in Grayling, Michigan. This includes, but is not limited to: employee management and engagement, quality systems, continuous improvement activities utilizing lean concepts, and compliance to relevant standards/requirements. Work collaboratively with Engineering and Production to maximize efficiencies, achieve objectives, and improve overall safety and product quality in the business.
Responsibilities include:
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages and leads program quality, inspection, continuous improvement for multiple programs.
- Promotes a safe work environment, and recommends changes/additions to safety policies.
- Ensures proper staffing to effectively perform all functions. This includes having the right skill mix to cover all areas of responsibility.
- Be an active member of the management team for the site that develops and executes operational plans.
- Keeps management and others informed of significant issues or developments.
- Supports other departments/functions as needed to ensure operational efficiencies.
- Develops quality team via internal and external educational opportunities
- Provides costing data to support proposal efforts.
- Resolves external quality issues. This may include direct customer contact, interaction with the program management team, or others close to the issue to resolve and drive permanent corrective actions.
- Manages the relevant aspects of the Quality Management System, to include achieving initial ISO9001 certification.
- Working with peers in the management team, establish quality improvement strategies and plans.
- Ensures internal audits of existing processes are being performed and changing/evaluating as necessary to continually meet/exceed customer expectations.
- Develops methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation of products
- Performs formal root cause analysis on product/process related issues.
- Utilizes risk assessment tools (e.g., PFMEAs) to identify actions to reduce risks.
- Leads key improvement projects, providing leadership in developing practical solutions to complex problems.
- Improves production processes using Kaizen events, process mapping, 5s, or other lean tools.
- Identifies trends and process variations for future improvement initiatives.
Compensation Range: $120,800- $157,000
The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
- Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred
- 10+ years of progressive experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5+ years in a supervisory role
- Lean training and experience / certification
- A proven track record of implementing improvements.
- Experience with customer interaction and problem resolution
- Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal and external clients
- Experience in an explosives manufacturing facility preferred
