Master Thesis 30 HP: Using Machine Learning algorithms to improve Signal processing in radar systems
Exploring modern machine learning and deep learning methods to improve performance in signal and data processing in ground based radar systems.
In todays radars targets are detected in large amounts of noisy data. This detection phase in our signal processing chain contains many distinct steps which are a set of complex algorithms that takes a lot of energy to develop and implement.
We want to explore a different angle of attack on this chain. We want to know if we can use machine learning methods to replace the classic signal processing methods in use today. We want to know if it will improve things such as performance, efficiency or developer efficiency.
Description of the master's thesis
We propose a master's thesis that includes the following steps:
1. Evaluate different machine learning methods in cases without disturbance in relation to the current system.
2. Evaluate different machine learning methods in different cases of disturbances.
In order to be able to do this, it needs to be stated:
Should the whole signal processing chain be included in the machine learning models or should a subset of steps be included?
How should the data be formatted in order to be used in the best possible way?
Which machine learning methods are suitable for applications that are to be run in real time?
We are looking for 2 master degree students with an interest in:
ML/DL based development
You are at the end of your master's degree in Computer engineering, Computer Science, Electrical engineering, or equivalent, and is eligible for your 30 HP degree project.
This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.

X Innovation Lab is a group working with new technology and new ways of working within Saab Radar Solutions in Göteborg. We do research and create prototypes that are then used in the on-going development of Saab's products.
