Concept Trade Study on how to improve the current Gripen E ECS Duct design in order to reduce cost and lead time in production.
Your role
Background
We at structural design are continuously investigating ways on how to improve our products regarding weight, cost and production lead time. This requires trading different design concepts, production methods, against each other in order to find the best solution for each application. The concept trade study may for example contain the following different production methods: Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP), Additive Manufacturing (AM), sheet metal welding, precision casting, NC milling etc.
Description of the master thesis
This Master Thesis’s goal is to find a ECS Duct concept that reduces cost and lead time without increasing the weight by trading different design concepts, production methods against each other. It is of course beneficial if the weight can also be reduced. Finding and trading the latest design principle and manufacturing methods that is not qualified in the aircraft industry is also part of the thesis work in order to help Saab to find future design principles and production methods that may be candidates for future qualification.
Your profile
This Master Thesis is suitable for one to two students with interest in Aircraft design, product development systems engineering/design, CAD (Catia V5 / NX), stress analyses, manufacturing methods, material selection, joining technology. You are at the end of your Masters in Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent and are about to start your Master Thesis work for 30 HP.
Education in Aeronautical or mechanical engineering, conceptual design, trading different concepts against each other is recommended. Furthermore, Computer Aided Design software, such as CATIA, is advantageous.
This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.
