This is a cluster ad for two Master Theses that aims at investigating how Knowledge Based Engineering can be applied into our design process, in order to decrease development time.

Your role

We at structural design are continuously improving our way of working to establish a higher product quality whilst shorten our development time. We are interested in taking the next step with our model based definition (MBD) methodology that we have today, namely to bring in more of our existing knowledge into our design tools. We are therefore interested in knowledge based engineering (KBE) and how that can enhance our capabilities to reach a higher product quality in a shorter time.

These Master Theses aims at investigating how a design methodology based on KBE can improve our future way of working. How can we use KBE to automate certain processes to achieve a higher quality while at the same time eliminate repetitive work. How can we by use of KBE better help our designers in creating the best possible design. We will customize the theses depending on the applicants’ interest. Expected result is a demonstration of how a future design process could look like.

Your profile

These two Master Theses are suitable for one to two students per thesis. With interest in product development, CAD (Catia V5), macros (VBA), stress analyses and design automation.

You are at the end of your Masters in mechanical engineering or similar and about to start your Master Thesis work for 30 HP.

What you will be a part of

We at structural design are a team of dedicating design engineers, which focuses on airframe design for a wide range of products, such as Gripen C/D and E/F, T-7A and Global Eye. We are part of the department Airframe & Vehicle Systems where we have a close collaboration with other disciplines such as stress, industrialization and systems installation. Airframe & Vehicle Systems is a department within the business area Saab Aeronautics.
