Master Thesis, 30 HP: Pattern Detector

Which aircraft out of thousands is spying on us? SAAB AB is looking for algorithms to detect movements which could give operators a clue.

Your role

SAAB can today provide our customers with state of the art information processing in our surveillance systems regarding detection, identification and tracking of objects. In order to stay the best it’s in our interest to expand the use of machine learning algorithms in this field in order to recognize specific situations.

Description of the master thesis

It has been shown that intelligence gathering aircrafts has some specific patterns in their movements. These are being carried out by the pilots with a degree of randomness. Today data is collected regarding position, velocity etc. of surrounding aircrafts. This data is then fed into our algorithms to create patterns.

This master thesis aims at investigating machine leaning based algorithms to categorize these patterns reliably. Particularly, but not limited to, a deep learning based approach for identifying such scenarios can be used. This project will rely heavily on synthetic data as relevant training sets might be unavailable. This means that the work could include building a training data simulator.

Your profile

This Master Thesis is suitable for 1-2 students with interest in artificial intelligence.

You are studying statistics, mathematics, technical physics or some other discipline that relates to software based decisions. Must have taken a class in AI-programming and/or time series classification.

You are at the end of your education and about to start your Master Thesis work for 30 HP.

What you will be a part of

A team of physics engineer with experiences of Data Fusion stretching back to the 80’s. You will work closely with people who has experience in making machine learning algorithms work in real life. The team also keeps a close contact with the academic world and has published its findings on several occasions.
