Master´s Thesis, 30 hp: Biodiversity assessment methodology

Stockholm, Sweden
Closing date: 14 February 2023

A biodiversity assessment of a high technology, defence and aerospace industry leader is needed in order to set relevant and meaningful biodiversity targets.

The assessment process would provide an excellent opportunity to explore current assessment methodologies used today in various industries and adapt them to a specialized industry, with a diverse offering of products and services.

Your role

Background

Saab is a proud environmental leader in our industry. A recent example of recognition is that Saab is now the first major defence and aerospace company to have science-based targets approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi.) While we have proudly achieved numerous environmental performance improvements, and not only within Climate action, we see the potential to further our knowledge and capabilities within the area of biodiversity.  We see it as relevant to assess our biodiversity aspects and set meaningful targets to further improve our environmental performance.

Description of the Master’s thesis

This Master’s thesis aims to firstly scan the current practices of biodiversity assessments within companies and organisations and then, based on our current product and service portfolio, to develop an effective assessment methodology(ies) to be applied at Saab. The exercise will require a general evaluation of Saab’s biodiversity impacts stemming from sourcing, manufacturing, distribution and even the use phase and disposal of our products/services. The conclusions of the thesis should give insights on which biodiversity impacts/risks are most relevant at a corporate level and then to make recommendations as to actions that meaningfully reduce those impacts.
