Parts Classification Engineer

The Job:

To lead the technical classification function related to new and existing parts through technical analysis and understanding of; Export Control, Commodity Codes, Country of Origin and Hazardous Good Classification.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • Lead the business’s policies to ensure classification of parts is understood and documented

  • Develop and manage classification process as part of an overall Quality Management Process

  • Conduct technical assessment for new and existing parts in order to;

    • Assign Export Control Classification Numbers

    • Determine Commodity Codes

    • Establish Country of Origin

    • Hazardous Good Classification

    • Assign internal product groups

  • Capture & collate above on respective business systems

  • Complete ownership/accountability for compliance master data sets

  • Provide information, support and training to the wider business

  • Work with procurement to facilitate the provision of required information from supply chain

  • Perform periodic audits on company procedures & policies.

  • Maintain awareness of classification/compliance requirements, regulation and changes

General accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • To use personal judgement and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles in day to day activities and procedures within the specified role

  • To maintain personal ability in, and appropriate use of, all relevant IT (Information and Technology) and other systems required to adequately perform the role

  • To act ethically, with integrity and in the best interest of the business at all times

  • To maintain a professional and supportive relationship with team members and other departments in order to deliver business objectives or deadlines

  • To carry out any other duties as detailed by a member of the management team or authorized representative

  • To keep good time management to minimise any wasted time and maximise productivity and effectiveness

Essential Skills:

  • HNC or Degree in a relevant engineering discipline

  • Proven experience working on multi-disciplinary systems (electrical, mechanical, software)

  • Ability to analyse parts to determine technical characteristics

  • Excellent communicator: both written and verbal 

  • Ability to work unsupervised to tight timescales 

  • Enthusiasm, drive and ambition

Desirable:

  • Previous classification and/or compliance experience

  • Experience in data capture and analysis
