What you will become a part of

Business Area Surveillance offers effective solutions for surveillance, decision support and systems used to detect and deter different kinds of threats. The product portfolio includes airborne, land based and marine radar systems, systems for signal reconnaissance, command and communications systems as well as systems for leading seafaring vessels and air traffic.

You will be a part of the business unit Radar Solutions that is responsible for the radar development and more specifically the engineering organization with headquarters in Gothenburg Sweden but based in the Fareham office.

The engineering organization consists of a number of departments where you will belong to the department called Electronics and Embedded Design.

Your role at Saab

Due to continued success, we are expanding our teams and are searching for power electronics engineers to join our team and be part of our global operation.

In broad terms the teams are responsible for designing power solutions for our land and naval applications. This means analysing systems requirements and power consumers in the system, design of power distribution, electronics design, power monitoring and writing technical requirements for subcontracting of power units. Our products often reside in a harsh environment with vibrations, humidity, and high/low temperatures.

The teams make design releases including

  • Requirements and design specifications
  • Schematics
  • Bill Of Material
  • Component configuration
  • Verification specification and result
  • Product documentation

The power engineering teams take part in all stages of the products life cycle, from early studies and contribution to tenders, to assisting at customer’s site with installation and maintenance activities. It is essential that the power engineering teams work in near cooperation with teams and personnel in other areas of expertise, such as system engineers, mechanical engineers, system integration engineers, production- and installation personnel.

You perform this work as a part of a team consisting of design engineers and subsystem engineers. Your team will be responsible for power distribution designs for our UK customer’s existing radar systems and updates as well as new systems.

Your team primarily will be based in Fareham, UK but you will spend a considerable amount of training and working in Gothenburg, Sweden, especially at the beginning of your employment.

Who you are today

Desired competence

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or similar
  • + 5 years working experience with electronics and power electronics development.
  • Power electronics – circuit theory, AC/DC and DC/DC converters, EMC filter design, fuses, relays, connectors, switch sockets, control panels, etc.
  • Experience in implementing designs to schematics with appropriate CAD tools, preferably from Cadence or Mentor.
  • Good knowledge in HW design verification and different type of measurement equipment
  • Good knowledge how to comply with EMC, ESD and electrical safety as well standards related to legal market requirements
  • Experience in deploying electronics designs into production
  • Fluent English both written and spoken

This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.
