Principal Product Engineer

Job Description:

Saab Inc., Land Systems division is seeking an experienced, dynamic, results-oriented Principal Product Engineer to be responsible for management of engineering activities for the guided weapon system maturation and production in the U.S. Besides extensive, multi-discipline weapon system engineering knowledge and experience, this position will require the ability to operate in multi-company, multi-layered, multi-cultural, rapidly paced environment.

The Principal Product engineer will actively interact with the customer, partner and suppliers’ leadership, engineering, and production, as well as the internal company, division and program leadership, engineering, process, test, quality, supply chain, reliability, finance, and manufacturing teams, to jointly solve product issues and oversee the transition to the full rate production. The position will require leading a multi-discipline team of product engineers through the full product lifecycle, including the product maturation, production establishment, full-rate production support, obsolescence and supply issues, and future spiral development and applications. Travel is required, both domestic and international.

Currently the position can be remote home office with travel; relocation may be required to the future facilities’ location, at this time TBD.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the company’s and division's strategic technical and business path by applying engineering and business best practices, incorporating technology trends to the product maturation, sustainment, and driving future developments.

  • Interface with customers, external and internal program leadership, engineering, operations, business development, program capture, supply chain, quality, finance, security, export control and other relevant functions to support product maturation, production, and spiral development.

  • Efficiently operate in multi-company, inter-cultural, multiple locations environment, both domestically and internationally.

  • Identify gaps and opportunities in product capabilities, processes, production, employment, and sustainment and provide solutions to reduce associated risks, including verification and test strategies. Identify and implement strategic process improvement initiatives. Implement new technological solutions to identified capability gaps, including intellectual property retention and capture.

  • Effectively oversee Technical Data Package release and configuration control (including revisions and changes per established configuration control process).

  • Lead product-based multi-discipline engineering team and provide functional management, including hiring, individual performance development, and compensation reviews. Own and maintain engineering team performance matrix, including manpower planning and staffing.

  • Actively participate in the change control board meetings, failure investigations, product management, technical, production, risk management and performance reviews.

  • Multi-task and provide support to other organizational efforts and teams.

Compensation Range: $137,700-$179,000

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 20 years of relevant experience, or Master of Science in Engineering with 18 years of relevant experience, or Philosophy Doctor in Engineering with 16 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in weapon systems (missiles, munitions, and platforms in land, sea, and air domains) concepts of operation, architecture, design, manufacturing, integration, test, production, and life cycle sustainment.

  • Working experience with DoD and industry engineering processes, procedures, requirements, tools, and practices.

  • Working knowledge of multi-discipline product requirements, architecture, design, manufacture, verification, integration, and test, including planning and execution experience over the product life cycle.

  • Engineering and engineering leadership skills through all phases of multi-discipline product cycle, including conceptualization, design, integration, verification, test, production, and sustainment.

  • Effective communications with leadership, subordinates, and peers, both domestically and internationally, ability to operate in highly demanding multi-cultural environment.

  • Self-starter, working with minimum direction.

  • Ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance (active clearance preferred).

  • International and domestic travel is required, at least 30%.

Desired:

  • Experience with ground forces (U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corp., etc.) operations and weapon systems.

  • Mechanical engineering experience in the areas of structures, energetics, missile launchers, fire control systems, interconnects, and propulsion systems.

  • Hands-on experience with the full-rate production support and associated processes and procedures.

Citizenship Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
