Principal Product Manager (Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning)
Saab in East Syracuse, NY is seeking an expert Artificial Intelligence (AI) Machine Learning (ML) Engineer to fill a Principal Product Manager position and join a growth-focused AI/ML Innovation Laboratory within the U.S. The Lab performs research and development focused on providing solutions to external (DoD) and internal (Saab Corp) customers. As a key member of our Innovation Lab, the individual will execute AI/ML solutions as well as assist in growing opportunities with government research organizations (e.g. DARPA, IARPA, service labs, etc.). The Principal Product Manager will be a key contributor on our corporate-wide Independent Research & Development (IR&D) efforts in artificial intelligence and machine learning, manage existing R&D contracts, and transition technology into both our U.S. operating Divisions (in Syracuse, NY, Washington, D.C., and West Lafayette, IN) and Saab Global Business Areas (including Sweden, Australia, United Kingdom).
The ideal candidate is looking for an opportunity to utilize their combined technical and project management skills to advance Saab's AI/ML capabilities in the U.S. They must also have an understanding of the customer requirements and how to translate them into system solutions to be an integral part of the Saab team that provides engineering customer solutions within our markets in various domains. The Principal Product Manager will lead the design, development, prototyping of AI/ML solutions using models and simulations and engineering best practices in support of AI/ML initiatives. This role is crucial to bringing the capabilities needed by our customers and advancing Saab’s position in the market.
Specific job responsibilities will include:
Lead the technical development of the Artificial Intelligence Machine Learning capability, work with a team of product development, technologists personnel responsible for the development of our Core AI capabilities.
Build the AI capabilities roadmap and provide product integration approaches.
Conduct core research in the area of AI algorithms and capabilities.
Serve as the face of the organization to external and internal customers, and the customer advocate for product development, production and logistics support planning.
Support contract negotiation and coordinate proposal preparation (programmatic, technical and cost) for future programs.
Drive the identification of new Science & Technology business opportunities and develop new product roadmaps.
Manage projects and internal AI investments within schedule and budget, and lead risk and opportunity management.
Collaborate across the functional organizations within Saab across the corporation.
Manage internal Saab investments that align to the various product line development roadmaps requiring AI/ML.
Skills and Experience:
Master's degree in an AI/ ML related field (Computer Science, Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, Physics, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience) is required, PhD is preferred.
8+ years of relevant experience is required.
Must be a U.S. citizen capable of obtaining a DoD security clearance.
Some experience working on projects for U.S. Government or DoD research and development agencies.
Prior experience working with diverse teams/programs in multiple locations.
Must be a collaborative team member with the highest integrity and moral compass.
Ability to conduct research in state of art artificial intelligence / machine learning projects.
Experience working with Department of Defense (DoD) customers, specifically AI Research and application product development is desired.
Experience with the DoD architectural framework and design guidance for military systems, systems engineering processes desired.
Demonstrated responsibility for program execution and product development strategies, leading teams in the aerospace and defense industry.
Previously demonstrated leadership skills with cross functional experience.
Strong business acumen and proven customer relationship management skills.
Demonstrated ability to interact and influence suppliers, customer, key stakeholders (internal and external to the organization).
Able to communicate and make presentations to senior leadership within the company and customer communities.
Strong analysis skills and abilities.
