Principal Project Engineer (Maritime UxV)
Saab is seeking a Principal Project Engineer to help advance our Unmanned Maritime Systems capabilities in the U.S. The ideal candidate is looking for an opportunity to utilize their combined technical and project management skills, has an entrepreneurial spirit and desire to build the foundations of this critical competency in the U.S. They must also have an understanding of the customer requirements and how to translate them into system solutions to be an integral part of the Saab team that provides engineering customer solutions within the Maritime Unmanned Vehicle domain.
The Principal Project Engineer will lead the design, development, prototyping of Unmanned Systems (UxV) solutions using models and simulations and engineering best practices in support of the USN Maritime Unmanned Systems initiatives. Saab’s focus in the U.S. is to develop Unmanned Surface and Unmanned Underwater solutions for the U.S. Navy leveraging existing Saab Corp technology development in Vehicle, Artificial Intelligence (AI), sensor technologies and vehicle manufacturing capabilities. This role is crucial to bringing the capabilities needed by our customers, establishing and advancing Saab’s position in the market.
Specific job responsibilities will include:
Lead the technical development and execution of the UxV capability, work with a team of product development, technologists and manufacturing personnel responsible for business development and program execution.
Serve as the face of the organization to external customers customer advocate for product development, production and logistics support planning.
Coordinate the negotiation, proposals, business plans, budgets and contracts in the execution of the program tasks and strategies for existing programs.
Support contract negotiation, coordinate proposal preparation (programmatic, technical and cost) for future programs.
Drive the identification of new business opportunities and develop new product roadmaps.
Manage programs within schedule and budget, and lead risk and opportunity management.
Collaborate across the functional organizations within Saab in the U.S. and across the global corporation.
Manage internal Saab investments that align to the UxV product line development.
This position may be located in East Syracuse, NY, West Lafayette, IN or remotely in the U.S.
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Math or Science required; Master’s degree preferred.
10+ years of experience related to Autonomous Systems.
Experience working with Department of Defense (DoD) customers, specifically Naval Surface and Undersea communities.
Proven project leadership with Autonomous Systems.
Demonstrated responsibility for program execution and product development strategies, leading teams in the aerospace and defense industry.
Unmanned Systems development experience in the maritime environment is critical.
Previously demonstrated leadership management skills with cross functional experience.
Strong business acumen and proven customer relationship management skills.
Demonstrated ability to interact and influence suppliers, customer, key stakeholders (internal and external to the organization).
Ability to communicate and make presentations to senior leadership within the company and customer communities.
Strong analysis skills and abilities.
Experience with the DoD architectural framework and design guidance for unmanned systems and systems engineering processes.
