Job Description:

Saab is seeking an expert Principal Project Engineer to focus on developing and executing U.S. DoD Science and Technology (S&T) programs with DARPA, ONR, AFRL, ARL and the services. The individual will perform new program development related to research and development, focused on providing S&T solutions DoD customers, and be an integral part of the Saab team that supports engineering customer solutions within our markets in various domains.

As a key member of our leadership team, the Principal Project Engineer will execute, as well as assist in growing opportunities with government research organizations, support alignment of our corporate-wide Independent Research & Development (IR&D) efforts to enable Contracted Research and Development Capture. The ideal candidate is looking for an opportunity to utilize their combined technical, project management and new business capture skills to help Saab advance our capture and execution of contracted research and development. They must also have an understanding of the customer requirements and how to translate them into system solutions.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead a team of product development, technologists and strategist personnel responsible for business development and program execution within the Science and Technology business line of Saab.

  • Derive capture strategies for contracted research and development projects with the Government S&T community. Drive the identification of new business opportunities and develop new product roadmaps.

  • Serve as the face of the organization to external S&T customers customer advocate for product development, production and logistics support planning.

  • Coordinate the negotiation, proposals, business plans, budgets and contracts in the execution of the program tasks and strategies for existing programs.

  • Support contract negotiation, coordinate proposal preparation (programmatic, technical and cost) for future programs.

  • Manage programs within schedule and budget, and lead risk and opportunity management.

  • Collaborate across the functional organizations within Saab Inc. across the corporation.

  • Manage internal Saab investments that align to the various product line development roadmaps requiring S&T efforts.

Skills and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a science related field (Computer Science, Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, Physics, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience) required; Master’s degree and PhD preferred.

  • 10+ years of related experience.

  • Extensive experience working on projects for US Government or DoD research and development agencies.

  • Collaborative team member with the highest integrity and moral compass.

  • Some experience working with diverse teams/programs in multiple locations.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to effectively communicate to senior leadership within the company, customer and academic communities.

Desired:

  • Experience working with Department of Defense (DoD) customers, specifically S&T agencies.

  • Demonstrated responsibility for program execution and product development strategies, leading teams in the aerospace and defense industry.

  • Previously demonstrated leadership management skills with cross functional experience.

  • Strong business acumen and proven customer relationship management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact and influence suppliers, customer, key stakeholders (internal and external to the organization).

  • Strong analysis skills and abilities.

  • Experience with the DoD architectural framework and design guidance for unmanned systems, systems engineering processes.
