The role

As part of our Maritime group, the Program Director is responsible for the delivery and growth of capability introduction and enhancement projects within the Maritime domain for Saab Australia, both domestically and internationally. Reporting to the General Manager, the role has the supervisory responsibility of program managers to deliver program outcomes in a coordinated manner and as a member of the Maritime leadership team, has significant involvement in the resource management and strategy development of the overall Maritime business.

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Generate and maintain a master schedule of Maritime programs and report on their strategies, risks and key objectives
  • Monitor and review the execution of programs to ensure achievement of the projected outcomes
  • Maintain financial oversight of maritime programs, including budgeting, forecasting and management reporting of financial outcomes
  • Be responsible for revenue, gross margin and cash flow management of the portfolio of projects
  • Work with the Strategy and Capture Manager and Business Development team to identify, develop, report on and win new business opportunities
  • Create an environment that enables successful program delivery and resolves conflicts/competing priorities between programs
  • Provide leadership and direction to Maritime matrix organisation integrated project teams
  • Maintain good customer, partner and other relevant stakeholders relationships

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in an engineering, technical or business discipline
  • Extensive experience in systems oriented projects with recent experience in program / portfolio management roles
  • Demonstrated negotiation and interrelationship skills with ability to achieve effective outcomes in a multi-disciplined, multi-party environment
  • Demonstrated management and leadership/team building skills, with a track record of mentoring emerging leaders
  • Problem solving skills and a demonstrated ability to develop quick, effective, and reasonable courses of action in emergencies
  • Strong competency in customer relations, stakeholder management and development of new business
  • Broad based competency in the management of complex engineering development projects
  • Demonstrated understanding of Defence customers and Defence industry

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
