Senior Integration & Test Engineer

Job Description:

Saab Inc., Autonomous and Undersea Systems division is seeking an innovative and experienced Senior Integration and Test Engineer to work with and lead others on technical teams through capturing, decomposing, analyzing, deriving, allocating, implementing, and verifying product and system integration and test requirements for autonomous Unmanned Surface/Underwater Vehicles (aUSVs/aUUVs, AUVs) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). This position will sit in our new facility in Quincy, MA

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Decomposing stakeholder needs and Concepts of Operation into system/sub-system level integration and test requirements. Perform functional analysis, derivation, and allocation to lower level system/sub-system integration and test elements.  Experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) for integration and testing is a plus.

  • Appling fundamentals and best practices of system test and integration engineering to create innovative solutions and solve challenging problems.  Experience with Design for Manufacturability, production lines and harvesting production test data a plus.

  • Maintaining Requirement Verification Test Matrix (RVTM). Analyze requirements and develop verification strategies for those requirements.

  • Executing software and/or hardware testing at various levels of the build process (e.g. unit, subsystem, and system).

  • Supporting integration activities, troubleshooting and regression testing.

  • Conducting engineering dry runs and formal test events with customer participation.

  • Developing integration & test plans and procedures and supporting test scripts.

  • Writing test reports documenting the results of formal test events.

  • Conceiving, designing, prototyping, and delivering system integration and test hardware, software, and systems.  Ability to code/script in C,C++/Python and work with Arduino’s or similar small application specific computers desirable.

  • Conducting alternatives analyses and propose solutions in support of stakeholder change requests.

  • Presenting and discussing technical concepts, data, tradeoffs, analyses, designs, and performance estimates.

  • Interfacing with other disciplines to develop/define/implement customer requirements.

  • Supporting full product lifecycle: development, prototyping, integration, production, verification, delivery, and support as required including operations and sea-testing.

  • Participating in technical reviews and status meetings.

  • Collaborating and communicating with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Following company standard operating procedures and Quality System requirements.

  • Planning, organizing, and estimating required effort for responsible tasks, including possibly writing Basis of Estimates (BOEs).

  • Working within a team environment to achieve goals.

  • Supporting mentoring and engineering staff development.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related discipline, Master’s degree is a plus.

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in advanced system integration and test engineering with broad application and a fundamental understanding of product development life cycles.

  • Familiarity with Saab products, processes and customers.

  • Ability to develop system integration and test solutions meeting or exceeding customer needs.

  • Ability to specify interfaces including physical/mechanical, electrical, software, and communication protocols.

  • Fundamental understanding of industry accepted design methods and practices, including design spaces/tradeoffs, test data analysis, and requirement/specification change processes.

  • Significant system integration and test development background demonstrating a strong engineering aptitude and good problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve issues during design, development, and execution of system engineering activities.

  • Experience with requirements management tools and analysis packages (such as CORE/Doors and MatLab/MathCad/Ansys/LabView), MSOffice including (Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) to create documents, work products, and presentations. Experience with Cameo, Requirements Toolbox, MagicDraw, MSProject, SolidWorks, AutoCad, Creo, are pluses.

  • Expertise with standard data collection, test, environmental (thermal, shock, vibe) and integration equipment, facilities, and test techniques.  Experience with US Navy specific test sites and ranges used for underwater vehicle and payload testing a plus.

  • Ability and willingness to support all phases of programs from concept development through final acceptance is required; this will often include on-site support for customer meetings, support equipment installation, configuration, integration, optimization, delivery, and acceptance testing.

  • Strong written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proven contributor on project teams to accomplish objectives.

  • Effective contributor in a team environment, providing technical leadership where applicable.

  • Ability to work independently to achieve technical and program requirements.

  • Ability to work with other engineering disciplines to contribute to a collaborative development environment.

  • Must hold or be able to obtain U.S. DoD SECRET security clearance.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%, both international and domestic.

Desired:

  • Prior experience with DoD or with U.S. government customers is highly desirable.

  • Experience developing system integration and test products/solutions for Naval and Marine applications.

  • Familiarity with Military Standards, ruggedized equipment design, and environmental test requirements.

  • Extensive familiarity with the design and development of autonomous surface and underwater systems.
