Senior Staff Model Based Systems Engineer
Saab is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience to join our team incorporating digital engineering practices across the company in an exciting variety of programs. The successful candidate will exercise both thought leadership and practical engineering application, by leveraging their systems engineering and MBSE experiences to help grow Saab’s digital engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate will have experience developing complex, integrated, and multi-disciplinary systems using SysML and MagicDraw/Cameo.
The location of this position is flexible; the successful candidate will have the ability to either work remotely or onsite in the East Syracuse, NY office.
Responsibilities will include:
Use your knowledge of systems engineering processes, methods, and tools (including SysML) to help develop, implement, and deploy MBSE solutions for use on individual programs and throughout the business.
Learn, apply, and continuously improve our platform to capture stakeholder and system requirements, facilitate discussion and understanding of solutions, and enhance a culture of model based digital engineering.
Engage other systems engineers, other disciplines, and customers to directly support programs, assist in developing digital work products, and foster broader understanding and adoption of modeling.
Create and implement a roadmap to define and fulfill MBSE goals and capabilities across the business, inclusive of tools, methods, processes, and infrastructure.
Contribute to the development of MBSE best practices at Saab, including: Model focus definition, Model structure, Product team use and ownership strategy, Model data validation and consistency techniques, and Incorporation of MBSE into command media.
Engage industry, government, and academia to stay up-to-date with latest trends, technologies, approaches, methods, and techniques to mature and increase business capabilities.
Execute customization and automation techniques to enable multi-disciplinary programs to comply with Department of Defense (DoD) Digital Engineering goals.
Architect dynamic models as a collection of interconnected, reusable, federated MBSE models.
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a team of systems engineers in the areas of systems architecture modeling and MBSE.
Share MBSE best practices, lessons learned, and mentor domain experts and multi-disciplinary development teams to realize program designs and digital engineering goals.
Develop and review guidance and training materials related to architecture modeling, tool usage, processes, assumptions, and limitations. Coordinate amongst practitioners to share best practices, establish style guides, and templates.
Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of system level requirements for assigned systems and the design features that satisfy these requirements.
Maintain the documentation baselines for each system variant.
Analyze system data to determine adequate system performance under various environmental and operational conditions.
Investigate system anomalies and recommend actions to resolve these anomalies.
Support technical proposal preparation for future programs.
Collaborate across the functional organizations within Saab in the U.S. and across the global corporation.
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics is required. Master's or PhD is preferred.
Experience in safety critical or mission critical industries (aerospace, military, medical, automotive, energy / nuclear, etc.)
10+ years of experience in systems engineering fundamentals (e.g. CONOPS, architecture and design, analysis, documentation, requirements, validation, verification, field support, etc.).
Must be able to effectively collaborate with industry and academic partners.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to effectively communicate to senior leadership within the company, customer, end user, and academic communities.
Strong analysis skills and abilities.
4+ years of experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) performing advanced modeling of complex systems using SysML in MagicDraw/Cameo (or similar) including use cases, functional and physical hierarchies and interfaces, behaviors, requirements, traceability, model simulation and parametrics, verification cases, etc.
Experience leading system model development in an MBSE tool using SysML.
Working knowledge of architecture frameworks (e.g., DoDAF, MoDAF, UAF).
Must be passionate about MBSE and its adoption.
Experience developing, deploying, or supporting radar systems.
Experience leading SE teams through all phases of the systems engineering lifecycle.
Familiarity with open architectures (e.g. Modular Open System Architecture).
Experience with MATLAB Simulink.
Experience with Agile development approach.
Experience with MagicDraw/Cameo and Teamwork Cloud.
Experience or familiarity with administration of Model Based Engineering (MBE) tools.
Experience as a model manager or model curator.
Proficiency in one or more high-level languages (Python, Java, C, C++, etc.).
Experience with at least two programs that utilized an MBSE approach to accomplish key development milestones such as Systems Requirements Review (SRR), Systems Functional Review (SFR), and Preliminary Design Review (PDR).
Exposure to multidisciplinary analysis and optimization tools and digital engineering lifecycle management tools.
OMG Certified System Modeling Professional (OSCMP) Model Builder-Intermediate or Model Builder-Advanced.
INCOSE CSEP or ESEP Certification.
Experience working with DoD customers and in the DoD procurement/acquisition environment.
Active DoD Secret clearance.
