Senior Systems Engineer (Air Traffic Management)
Saab in East Syracuse, NY is currently seeking a self-motivated and experienced Senior Systems Engineer to conduct complex requirements and functional analysis, systems integration and test methodologies, solve multifaceted technical problems and provide solution recommendations for Surface Surveillance Systems. These systems include the Airport Surface Detection Equipment (ASDE-X), Airport Surface Surveillance Capabilities (ASSC), comprising of Multilateration, ADS-B, Surface Movement Radars, Runway Status Lights, in addition, Digital Tower technology to support airlines, airports and air traffic control towers.
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to work on leading-edge technologies that directly support the majority of flights in the U.S. As a Senior Systems Engineer on the team, you will lead technical teams and coach and provide technical oversight to less seasoned engineers, and work with a diverse group of internal and external team members, spanning numerous disciplines and all experience levels.
Responsibilities and learning opportunities will include:
Decompose stakeholder needs into system level requirements, perform functional analysis and allocate requirements to lower level system elements.
Generate system/software requirements to assure implementation.
Define interfaces including physical characteristics, electrical characteristics and communication protocols.
Develop system software algorithm designs based on analysis and modeling methodologies.
Develop system/software integration and test methods.
Conduct data modeling, anomaly investigation and analysis.
Conduct and support system/software integration in laboratory and operational environments.
Conduct alternatives analysis and propose solutions in support of stakeholder change requests.
Participate in technical reviews and status meetings.
Collaborate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, mathematics or applicable scientific field is required.
8+ years of applicable, professional experience, preferably in the domain of signal and radar processing.
The ability and willingness to support all phases of programs from concept development through final acceptance is required. This will often include on-site support for surveys, installation, configuration, integration, optimization and acceptance testing.
Understanding of software languages, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings or other discipline specific artifacts.
Ability to perform basic data analysis.
Ability to perform trade studies.
Experience with Microsoft office including Word, Excel, Visio and Power Point are required.
Familiarity with integration and test techniques.
A working knowledge of air traffic control, airline ramp control or airport surveillance is desirable.
Experience with FAA or other US government customers is highly desirable.
Experience with MATLAB, and 2D/3D CAD (Autodesk Fusion, Solidworks, etc) is desirable.
