We are looking for a skilled test engineer within the area of materials testing to join our Structural mechanic department!  You will manage our laboratory in Karlskrona and this is a role for you who have a genuine interest in materials' versatility and want to apply these to complex and important products. We offer you a unique role at one of the world's most modern shipyards!

Your role

You will be the front person of the lab! You will get to collaborate with colleagues within the department as well as work closely to production, the internal client. You will be the one standing up for quality and perform testing, investigations and measurements in the area of materials testing for our products - submarines and surface ships. You will also prepare, preform and report different mechanical tests with respect to welding, most often stainless steel and copper-alloys.

The main tasks are:

  • Perform mechanical testing such as tensile test, impact test, bending test, hardness , micro-and macro-structure
  • Examination of welds  from production and approve/reject
  • Perform documentation of testing
  • Guide, support and interact with welding experts in production
  • Guide and support designers
  • Manage the laboratory in Karlskrona, maintain and develop routines
  • Plan and evaluate verification measurements

The team operates from both Malmö and Karlskrona and some work travels between these sites and also other Saab sites in Sweden, is required. Your days will be varied working both from the office, laboratory and the workshops.

Your profile

We are looking for you who enjoy taking on responsibility and deliver in you role! You need to be good at both networking and building trust as well as being able to work independently. To succeed you need high communicative skills and truly enjoy working together with others to find solutions to challenging problems. We believe you are a person with great technical interest, have a curious mind, a structured and responsive way and the ability to grasp complex issues.  Sometimes though, you might get to work with repetitive work and then it’s a must you don´t lose focus but can keep up the thoroughness in your performance. 

Required skills:

  • Bachelor/Master of science in Materials Engineering
  • Minimum a few years of relevant experience in  laboratorial environment
  • Understanding and knowledge of handling chemicals in relation to a safe working environment
  • Excellent communication skills in Swedish and English, verbal and written
  • Driving license

Desired skills:

  • Excellent knowledge in structural mechanics
  • Metallographic examination
  • Knowledge/experience of composite materials
  • Examination IWE/IWT

This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.
