Good Chance to Sell Gripen to India: Buskhe
In a recent interview, Saab CEO Håkan Buskhe said that he believes Saab has a good chance of selling Gripen to India. This statement was made in the context of the recent RFI (Request for Information) document published by Indian authorities regarding the procurement of fighter jets for the Indian Air Force (IAF), as well as the visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sweden, where he met Swedish industrialists, including Mr. Håkan Buskhe.
Mr. Buskhe said that Gripen E has bright prospects. “Gripen E is the world’s most modern aircraft. It has enhanced weapons load capability and can fly beyond two-engine airplanes.” He also added that Saab is fully committed to its “Make in India” offer.
“Brazil is a good example of how we can deliver, on schedule, what we promise in terms of technology transfer,” he said.
According to the RFI, India is looking to procure 110 fighter jets for their Air Force, and the deal could amount to $15 billion.
Saab has offered to build a modern aerospace manufacturing facility in India if the IAF decides to buy Gripen.
The 70-page document stating the requirements of the IAF have been defined by Mr. Bushke as “well-defined”.
“It’s good that India has a structured process,” he said.
