A relaxed conversation with those on the cutting edge of science and technology - hosted by Britain's first astronaut Helen Sharman - Presented by Imperial College London and Saab.

The Zero Pressure podcast series will be looking at how science and technology can positively contribute to solving complex, interrelated global challenges of today and tomorrow. This six-episode podcast series will have a particular focus on security – looking at protection for individuals, nations and the whole Earth, from both cyber and physical threats. We will be looking at pioneering technologies and speaking those on the thinking edge.

Meet our host!

Helen Sharman CMG OBE, is the first British astronaut. Working as a chemist, in November 1989 Helen responded to a radio advertisement for astronauts and was selected from more than 13,000 applicants to be part of Project Juno, a commercial British- Soviet Union cosmonaut mission. She spent eight days orbiting the Earth, mostly living and working on the Space Station Mir in May 1991. Helen now works part-time at Imperial College, London and speaks around the world about her space experiences.

Autonomous Systems and the Rules of Right and Wrong

Helen Sharman, Britain’s first astronaut, hosts an expert-led discussion on autonomous systems and the ethics surrounding their use and development. How can autonomous systems help not just with dull or dangerous tasks but also improving decision-making? What about the serious ethical questions related to some of the decision making in autonomous systems? Helen’s guests this week are Virginia Dignum, Professor at the Department of Computing Science at Umeå University, Sweden and Denise Garcia, Associate Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at Northeastern University.
