Meet our host!
Helen Sharman CMG OBE, is the first British astronaut. Working as a chemist, in November 1989 Helen responded to a radio advertisement for astronauts and was selected from more than 13,000 applicants to be part of Project Juno, a commercial British- Soviet Union cosmonaut mission. She spent eight days orbiting the Earth, mostly living and working on the Space Station Mir in May 1991. Helen now works part-time at Imperial College, London and speaks around the world about her space experiences.
30 years after becoming the first Briton in space, Helen sits down with Christer Fuglesang, the first Swedish astronaut. The two pioneers discuss their experiences in space, how humans will live on Mars, the potential threats we face from space, and what the future of space exploration may look like in the year 2050.
