Global Expansions Mark Saab's 75th Anniversary
In the late 30’s, Europe was on the brink of a major conflict. Sweden, neutral and at peace for more than a century, government and industry prepared for the worst.
Against this background Saab was founded on April 2nd 1937 based on a decision by the Swedish Parliament with the aim that Sweden should have its own indigenous ability to produce its own fighter aircraft.
Over these past 75 years, aviation has played a significant role in our business. Up until today Saab has produced more than 4,000 aircraft. Today, we are using our 75 years of world class aviation and high-tech engineering to become a truly global player in the defence and security market, says Saab CEO Håkan Buskhe.
Fast forward to 2012, Saab is a company offering a wide range of innovative products in defence, civil security and air traffic management. We have our own operations in 32 countries, on all continents. We have nearly 14,000 employees all around the world and about 10,000 of us are engineers.
The key to our success has been to foresee change and adapt quickly. Countries such as South Africa, India, Brazil and the US have discovered our cutting-edge and highly cost-efficient products and solutions, states Håkan Buskhe.
Saab will continue to focus major investment in research and development. We will also continue to focus on developing long-term co-operation and local partnerships. Both essentials in order to create and retain a high-technology base and cost-efficient offer, concludes Håkan Buskhe.
