Saab Presents Training Capabilities At Counter IED India Conference
Leon Thompson presented Saab's Counter Improvised Explosive Device training capabilities to an audience of serving armed forces, homeland security professionals and international delegates at the Counter IED India Conference, Mumbai on October 4.
Leon explained the Counter IED Collective Trainer capability and how it has been delivered to the UK and Australian armed forces by Saab personnel ‘at the point of need'. He also went on to highlight the considerable levels of expertise that Saab brings to Counter IED, Explosive Ordnance Disposal and search training environments. The event provided Saab with an opportunity to understand the IED threats currently faced by Indian Security. Leon said,
“We will now strive to utilise our expertise to offer tailored training solutions that will help Indian armed forces to bridge CIED and search training gaps.”
Simulation covers three dimensions- live, virtual and constructive (LVC) environments. The live domain consists of real people using real equipments but having simulated effects on each other. Typically that would be a tactical engagement simulation capability. “Counter Improvised Explosive Device (IED) is a system where a trainee uses a metal detector on which we place a metal detector sensor to monitor height, speed, sweep, swoop and effectiveness of the detector. This helps us in gauging the trainee’s proficiency and providing him vital feedback during and after a training session”, informed Saab.
Today’s ground forces are preparing for tomorrow’s demanding missions in which combat strategies must be seamlessly implemented – from open to urban terrain and through a three-block war scenario. CIED offers solutions designed to meet the need for enhanced operational capabilities and a higher level of effectiveness.
