Saab Opens New Aspen Park Facility in Syracuse, Expanding Capabilities for U.S. Growth
Saab, Inc. today celebrated the opening of its newest facility at its North American Headquarters in Syracuse, New York, marking another significant investment in the company’s U.S. operations and expanding the capabilities of its campus.
“What this building represents is capacity,” said Erik Smith, president and CEO of Saab in the U.S. “Right now, our customers are asking for more, and asking for it faster. That's real demand, and the country's ability to meet it depends on whether companies like Saab can meet the moment.
The new Aspen Park facility builds on Saab’s longstanding presence in Central New York. The 50,000-square-foot facility adds engineering labs, secure spaces and an expansive high-bay area for product manufacturing and testing. It will serve to bring several product and production teams together on one campus.
“This building was originally designed for creative, ambitious work, using technology to bring things to life,” said Sarah Schoof, vice president of Surveillance Systems at Saab in the U.S. “Today, the building has been reimagined as a hub for advanced engineering, and we are excited to get to carry that spirit forward in a new way.”
Saab’s investment in Aspen Park comes as the company continues to expand its presence across the United States, with more than 600 employees in the Central New York region and more than 1,100 employees nationwide.
Syracuse has become an important hub for Saab’s U.S. operations, supported by the region’s strong engineering and manufacturing workforce and its proximity to military installations and other organizations that contribute to the nation’s defense ecosystem.
“After decades of advocacy in Washington to help Saab grow its Central NY workforce to more than 600 good-paying jobs, I am excited to celebrate as we cut the ribbon on their new Aspen Park facility in East Syracuse. I am proud I delivered a $5 million strategic investment in the federal budget to fast-track the domestic production of Saab’s next-generation radar and sensor systems, working closely with Saab’s leadership to help ensure that this new business was located here in East Syracuse,” said U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer. “The CHIPS & Science Act I championed delivered tens of millions for ecosystem-building initiatives like the I-Corridor Tech Hub, and helped create the right conditions to land transformative new investments just like this one. Aspen Park will add 50,000 square feet of new design, development, test, and manufacturing space to Saab’s Syracuse HQ, strengthen the Central NY Defense Industrial Base, and restore the former Syracuse Film Hub to productive use, all while creating a steady stream of new, good-paying jobs. I will never stop fighting to drive new growth and opportunity in Central NY, and in communities all across New York State.”
The company’s growth in the region also reflects broader investments in advanced manufacturing and technology across Central New York and the nation. Aspen Park is the latest facility to open as part of the company’s commitment to open four new manufacturing facilities by 2028, providing Saab employees with modern facilities designed around the work they do and creating additional capacity for the company’s continued growth.
