Your role
As we scale our operations, we need a specialist who can look at a complex mechanical design and see exactly how to make it leaner, cheaper, and faster to produce and still maintain the required level of quality and performance.
As our Cost & Advanced Manufacturing Engineer, you will be the driving force behind our industrial efficiency. You will work closely with our designers and procurement department to ensure that our products are optimized for everything from the supply chain to final assembly. You will work as an internal expert in our department with advanced manufacturing, improving our core technologies like Additive Manufacturing and Composites into a competitive advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Optimize Design: Apply DfX (Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Supply Chain, Test, and Modularity) to reduce costs and complexity in mechanical development.
- Enable Design & Procurement: Support the design and purchasing teams with reliable cost estimations, helping them make analyses and informed decisions during the early stages of development.
- Advanced Manufacturing Strategy: Lead the strategy and implementation of advanced manufacturing processes such as Additive Manufacturing, Composite Manufacturing, Friction Stir Welding and new potential processes.
- Scale Production: Define how we industrialize new mechanical technologies to ensure they can be produced at scale and cost-effectively.
- Cost & Complexity Optimization: Actively work to reduce part count, assembly complexity, and lead times while maintaining the highest quality standards.
- Process Selection & Standardization: Guide the selection of optimal manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, composites, AM) and develop modular mechanical design standards.
- Stay Ahead: Keep us competitive by benchmarking industrial practices from other high-tech sectors.
Your profile
We are looking for someone who understands the importance of early collaboration with internal stakeholders and can effectively bridge technical and commercial perspectives to drive better design and sourcing decisions. We believe you have experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Cost Engineering, or a similar role. You understand the nuances of different manufacturing processes and how they impact the bottom line. Above this we see that you have:
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and DfX methodologies
- Ability to analyze complex designs and identify efficient production solutions
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to build strong partnerships across Engineering, Procurement, Suppliers, and Production
- Commercial awareness and the ability to balance technical requirements with cost and supply chain considerations
Meritorious:
- Experience working with ISO standards
- Experience with Saabs products and/ or defense industry
