At Saab in Cranston, Rhode Island, you have the opportunity to join a team that will manufacture underwater products for DoD and international customers. 

Saab, Inc. is seeking a dynamic, results-oriented individual to fill the role of Plant Manager. The Plant Manager reports to the VP of Operations and is responsible for the entirety of manufacturing operations supporting the Autonomous and Undersea Systems Division of Saab, Inc. This individual will be responsible for establishing a new production facility from the ground up, building a team of approximately 20 people, and establishing the necessary processes to support manufacturing operations to include production and financial controls, plant security and safety, regulatory compliance, and quality. This individual will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to meet cost, quality, delivery, customer satisfaction, EHS, and continuous improvement goals.

As the Plant Manager, you will: 

    • Lead the development of a manufacturing operation structure including manufacturing and financial controls, plant security and safety, regulatory compliance, quality, facilities, and all manufacturing areas.

    • Coordinate on-time execution of production schedule.

    • Develop and sustain a culture of safety by ensuring operations meet or exceed applicable safety regulations.

    • Forecast, budget, and manage expense budget and strategic capital expenditures.

    • Develop an organization through recruiting, onboarding, training, and coaching employees.

    • Quantify objective measures to be implemented that will reduce inefficiencies and waste

    • Communicate performance through all levels of the organization through metrics and reports

    • Drives cost reduction and continuous improvement concepts and projects to achieve annual goals.

    • Monitors and improves employee productivity and effectiveness related to Operations and maintains a commitment to employee involvement.

    • Provide feedback to employees regarding performance including areas for improvement.

    • Evaluate innovative technologies and recommends strategies for acquisition and implementation.

    • Represent company interests in dealings with suppliers and customers.

    • Work cross-functionally to ensure consistency in operations and related strategies.

      Skills and Experience:


      • Bachelor's degree in Operations/Business Management or Technical/Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics). Related advance degree preferred.

      • Certification in Structured Problem Solving (Shainin Red X, Six Sigma Green or Black Belt)

      • Lean Manufacturing Certificate (preferred)

      • 6-10+ years of applicable experience


      • Excellent communication skills-both verbal and written

      • Demonstrated success in implementing large-scale improvements and changes in complex and diverse environments

      • Ability to lead a large team across multiple functions

      • Strong attention to detail

      • Proficient computer and application software skills and familiarity with office applications and enterprise resource planning (ERP)

      • Efficient at multitasking related to manufacturing operations

      • Effective interpersonal skills

      • Ability to manage projects and activities in multiple locations with diverse groups of people

      • Detailed knowledge of manufacturing operations

      • Demonstrated problem solving skills in a manufacturing environment
