Job Description:

Saab, Inc. is seeking a Senior Director of Business Development to lead a team of Business Development professionals responsible for the profitable growth of its U.S. defense and civil aviation business through identification, shaping, and qualification of 3-5 year horizon business opportunities. You will have the unique opportunity to build a new service/agency aligned team of Business Development Directors that will shape Saab solutions to customer needs and hand off to Division Marketing & Sales teammates to capture.  You and your team will be responsible to develop partnerships with stakeholders including industry and academia.  As the leader of U.S. Business Development, you will represent Saab, Inc. interests in the global business development organization. 

This position is located in Saab’s Washington, D.C. Navy Yard office with 2 days/week work from home option and includes customer responsibilities that span the U.S.  This role reports to the Saab, Inc. SVP Corporate Affairs.

Major responsibilities will include:

  • Hire, inspire and drive highly collaborative team of business development professionals in results driven organization

  • Maintain and grow deep, senior level customer relationships with the customer community including acquisition systems commands, resource sponsors, operational and administrative commanders, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Federal Aviation Administration, airlines/airports, etc.

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of Saab’s products and work with the global and U.S. organizations to identify opportunities to capture U.S. market share

  • Lead all aspects of business development capture management following all required processes and preparing products for the capture of major pursuits within the defense and commercial markets

  • As functional process owner, lead a disciplined corporate winning business/decision gate process; prepare and conduct decision gates for Business Development proposals; support gate reviews as necessary

  • Lead corporate proposal center organization ensuring high quality, compelling, compliant proposals that win business

  • Lead business intelligence and business development operations ensuring effective collection of orders plan across the company and trends across industry

  • Prepare compelling, high quality briefing materials for executive leadership and present persuasive and data based business cases

  • Leverage synergies with Corporate Affairs partners (government affairs and communications) to grow Saab, Inc.’s  brand as an embedded U.S. supplier

  • Develop and execute corporate business development 5 year strategy

  • This position may require up to 40% of travel away from local office throughout the year including travel to Sweden

Total Annual Compensation Opportunity: $266,600-$366,600

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

  • 20+ years of experience in aerospace/defense industry business development, and/or relevant military experience; some industry experience highly preferred

  • Senior military service or relevant government service

  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing high-performing teams

  • Knowledge of DoD acquisition process, and government procurement policies and procedures

  • Knowledge of U.S. government budget process and able to skillfully navigate detailed defense budgets

  • Advanced degree in Business, Engineering, or relevant field

  • Proven outstanding communication, strategic planning, voice of the customer and relationship management skills

  • Highly collaborative and excited about building a new team

  • Creative connector; excel at creating alternate approaches to challenges

  • Extreme attention and commitment to detail

  • Thrive under pressure and respond quickly and proficiently to stakeholders

  • Consistently exceed expectations and manage time skillfully to meet deadlines

  • Have the ability to obtain a Secret level clearance

Citizenship Requirements:

Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
