Job Description:

As Saab continues to build out brown field operations in Syracuse, New York we are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer who is interested in further developing knowledge in manufacturing technology. The Manufacturing Engineering function will be responsible for all the production technical work for assembly and installation, from calculation, production preparation and production of process documentation, to verification. The function is also accountable for manufacturing engineering development, manufacturing techniques, and supporting the qualification of new products based on both Saab and customer requirements.

The Manufacturing Engineer will be an integral link between the design team and the production team in Syracuse.

Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze existing and/or revised technical data package from an assembly and test perspective to develop, produce, and sustain the following in a brownfield-like environment:
    • Assembly instructions
    • Manufacturing routers
    • Assembly aides, fixtures, and tooling
    • Manufacturing work cells and flow lines
    • Workspace requirements from a material flow, visual management, and bottleneck perspective.
  • Contribute to the development of production systems and working methods influencing the design work to achieve efficient low production costs without compromising function and quality.
  • Contribute to the development of new technical solutions, and to the development of efficient production systems and assembly lines based on Lean principles.
  • Assist in the development of Tiered Meeting Architecture, 5S, and Idea systems
  • Actively engage with assemblers, technicians, and inspectors to improve value add processes and workplace organization.
  • Develop and implement factory layouts and production flow in conjunction with existing facility and capital buildout.

  • Assist in creating basis of estimates for manufacturing activities in support of proposals

Compensation Range: $90,00 - $112,000

    The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

    Skills and Experience:

    Required Skills

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or related engineering discipline
    • 5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment
    • Driven, innovative and takes initiative without being asked.
    • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to effectively collaborate across functional areas within an operation
    • Ability to develop relationships and networks with both internal and external partners
    • Ability to work well independently, as well as collaboratively in a team setting
    • Ability to lead and manage change within a cross functional setting.
    • Demonstrated effective listening and communication skills across differing environments and audiences
    • Ability to be principle based while navigating the constraints of the business.
    • Demonstrated understanding of cycle time, takt time, and bottleneck analysis

    Desired:

    • Experience or formal training with new product develop, prototype development, early manufacturing processes.
    • Experience or formal training in Factory Physics and/or lean manufacturing
    • Drive continuous improvement for efficient production with experience or formal training in Six Sigma tools and processes
    • Able to work extended or flexible schedule to support the business
