Anti-terror tools for critical infrastructure managers
Saab Australia held a security seminar for State Government and commercial business leaders in Brisbane last week. Co-hosted by Business Sweden, the event focussed on how to detect, monitor, control and respond to critical infrastructure threats and challenges.
Honorary Swedish Consul and Chair of the 2018 Queensland Commonwealth Games Organising Corporation, Nigel Chamier welcomed the group who then heard from Queensland Police APM Deputy Commissioner (Special Operations) Stephen Gollschewski, former Queensland Police Superintendent Bob Waugh, 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation CEO Mark Peters and Mark Morrow from Security Consulting Group.
The threat of terrorism is growing while tools, tactics and targets are constantly changing. Case studies, lessons learnt, counter terrorism and integrated safety and security strategies were discussed including the recent G20 held in Queensland and multisport events.
“Using real-world examples and scenarios we explained the purpose and features of integrated security systems for diffusing or controlling emergency situations, and the threat of cyber security on critical infrastructure,” said Mark Slade, General Manager Saab Australia.
Saab Australia has invested enormous resources into physical security and information systems research and development over the past decade. It has developed integrated electronic security systems which are now managing security operations for defence bases and prisons across the country and New Zealand.
In the United Kingdom Saab is now rolling out two high-profile public security and safety projects — the ‘Transport for London’ command centre to manage incidents across London’s extensive public transport network and a multi-modal command centre for the Cheshire Police. Here in Australia, the security arm of the business is developing a new cyber security capability providing services for cyber related information security auditing and compliance, penetration and vulnerability assessments, risk assessments and security architecture design and assurance.

The Saab team demonstrated the power of OneView and SAFE and how they can integrate disparate security system components from other vendors. “By integrating extant systems we simplify security operations, increase control room efficiency and provide a platform that future proofs security needs without having to replace existing security infrastructure. That you can now link this with incident, response and resource attracted a great deal of interest,” said Mark Slade.
