Supporting Sovereign Industry Capability

2 min read

Saab Australia was proud to support the Australian Business Defence Industry’s Sovereign Industry Capabilities seminar on Thursday 27th July. The seminar was a great success and featured a keynote address from Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne.

This strategically-focussed Defence Industry Seminar addressed the important subject of Sovereign Industry Capabilities (SIC) and featured presentations from Commodore Rob Elliott, representing Chief of Navy, and Dr Janice Cocking, representing the Chief Defence Scientist, as well as many other notable speakers.

The seminar was timed to follow closely on the heels of the release of the Sovereign Industry Capability Assessment Framework. In his address the Minister highlighted that a sovereign industrial base that is ahead of the technology curve can maintain our regional capability advantage today and into the future as we introduce new capabilities and the rate of technological advance in our region grows ever faster. Saab Australia strongly supports the governments view and has been working hard over the last 30 years to establish a major combat system development and integration capability that can meet this challenge.

It isn't just about our capabilities, its also actively supporting and fostering the capabilities of Australia SMEs into local and international supply chains that provides a much borader soveriegn defence capability.
