Reliable medical and force infrastructure in the field

3 min read + Video

Saab Australia is currently delivering a deployable health capability for Australia’s Defence Force (JP2060 Phase 3) – however, modular and scalable field hospitals are just one example of Saab’s range of trusted, deployable solutions.

The deployable health solution

Through JP2060-3 Saab Australia is designing and delivering a world-class life-saving healthcare solution for use in military and humanitarian missions, both in Australia and overseas.

More than 550 health modules will deliver NATO Role 1 to 3 level clinical care and include surgical theatres, X-ray,  CT scanning capabilities, and general wards. The solution is modular and scalable to respond to any and all levels of mission response required by the ADF.

The modules will be stored and maintained in a purpose-built Deployable Health Capability Support Centre in Queensland, allowing for rapid deployment from the nearby Royal Australian Air Force base at Amberley.

World-class sovereign capability and a local, resilient supply chain

The solution is being designed in Australia by a dedicated team of more than 40 highly skilled Saab engineers across many fields of expertise including biomedical engineering, systems and mechanical engineering, infrastructure, and product research.

They are based in Saab’s global Deployable Health Capability Centre of Excellence (CoE), located in Melbourne, Victoria. The CoE was relocated from Sweden to Australia to support the delivery of JP2060 phase 3, and enable the transfer of technology from Europe to Australia.

In addition, Saab is engaging numerous local experts and suppliers to deliver the program, ensuring the development of sovereign capability and improving the ADF’s deployable healthcare outcomes. Local supply chains also improve delivery timeframes and circumvent the potential for disruptions in a global market.

Saab Australia currently engages with over 300 local companies in their Defence supply chain and is working with over 70 Australian small-to-medium enterprises in delivering JP2060 Phase 3 – ensuring supply chain resilience and providing opportunities for SMEs and innovative ideas to become part of the solution.

A full spectrum of deployable solutions

Globally, Saab has been delivering innovative deployable solutions for more than 30 years, including sanitation, catering, water management and treatment, shelters and power generation. As well as providing the physical infrastructure, our services include asset management, maintenance, training and resourcing.

Underpinned by the global Saab Group’s long record of delivering deployable facilities in Europe, Saab Australia’s experience in delivering JP2060 Phase 3 and as a systems integrator ideally positions us to provide other deployable force infrastructure solutions in Australia.

A common supplier of deployable health and other force infrastructure solutions would provide significant cost, operational and logistics benefits, strengthen interoperability, as well as reduce risk and shorten delivery timeframes.
