About Us

Since the 1970s, when India first acquired the Carl Gustaf multi-role weapon system, we have been a trusted partner in the nation’s defence and security journey. Today, we collaborate with several Indian companies across defence, aerospace, and civil security, driving research, development, and the creation of cutting-edge technologies. Our mission is to deliver solutions that will serve India and the rest of the world for generations to come. Fully aligned with the Government of India’s Make in India vision, we are ready to design, build, and deliver products right here in India—by Indians, for India, and for the world.

Air Domain

In India, Saab’s air domain portfolio spans combat and surveillance aircraft, electronic warfare, weapons, sensors, commercial aeronautics solutions, training, and full lifecycle support.

Saab’s Gripen offer goes beyond assembly lines, aiming to establish the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft manufacturing capability under the Make in India initiative. The proposal focuses on building an independent and sustainable industrial base that can design, develop, produce, upgrade and maintain the Gripen system, thereby going beyond just building subcomponents with Indian partners. Besides Gripen, this base will also offer long-term technological support for indigenous fighter programmes such as the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) MK2 and the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA).

Land Domain

Saab has long supported Indian soldiers with reliable solutions built for a demanding and diverse battlefield. Our focus remains consistent: deliver proven performance, adapt to evolving needs, and support mission success across operational scenarios.

The 84mm Carl-Gustaf recoilless rifle holds a significant position within the Indian Army's firepower. This versatile, man-portable, multi-role weapon system has proven indispensable across a range of combat scenarios, from urban warfare to challenging high-altitude terrains, demonstrating its effectiveness during its long history of service with the Indian Army, dating back to the first supply agreement in 1974, followed by the first cooperation agreement for production in India in 1976.

Naval Domain

Saab's maritime portfolio covers air, surface, sub-surface, and maritime surveillance domains, offering the Indian Navy and Coast Guard complete command and situational awareness at sea across all operational environments. Saab's autonomous vehicles can be used to enhance the Indian Navy's capabilities in mine reconnaissance, ordnance disposal, hydrography, seabed mapping, and related missions.

Saab has had a long association with Indian naval and coastal security. It has supplied Vessel Traffic Management Systems for ONGC and the Gulf of Kutch. Additionally, INS Kavaratti and INS Kiltan feature composite superstructures delivered by Saab.

Ground Combat

The first global defence firm to receive 100% FDI approval in India, Saab is currently setting up a modern manufacturing hub for the Carl-Gustaf M4 in Jhajjar (Haryana). This is the first Carl-Gustaf production unit outside Sweden, reinforcing Saab’s “Make in India” commitment. Equipped with advanced manufacturing (including precision carbon-fibre winding and next-generation sighting systems), the facility will supply the Indian Armed Forces and integrate India into Saab’s global supply chain—partnering with Indian suppliers, meeting domestic needs, and exporting high-quality components worldwide.
