Saab receives Contract for Surface Operations and Noise Monitoring Services for Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) has awarded Saab a contract to provide a flight tracking and noise monitoring solution. The five-year service contract includes an option for five additional years. The contract was signed in Q1 2022.

Saab will provide the solution, which includes Saab’s Aerobahn surface management capabilities, paired with noise management and community engagement technology supplied by the environmental technology company Envirosuite. This solution will support the airport’s growth with a dual-use, premier ramp tower automation platform, combined with a user-friendly community engagement tool to handle noise monitoring in the area surrounding the airport.

Saab’s Aerobahn surface management tool will provide flight tracking and ramp management functionalities at CVG, combining data from a variety of sources, including Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and presenting it to ramp tower controllers in a user friendly way that supports real-time decision making. The system also provides rich metrics on airport performance for stakeholder analysis and efficiency evaluations. This implementation will allow CVG to streamline communications and traffic flow and join more than 30 airports across the United States currently using Aerobahn.

The contract also includes Envirosuite’s Airport Noise and Operations Management System (ANOMS), which allows the airport to monitor and report on aircraft noise and activity. It allows airport users to investigate and analyse aircraft flight tracks, local noise measurements, community complaints, and a range of supplementary data.

Envirosuite’s flight tracking system, WebTrak, enables airports to engage easily and effectively with their local community, providing the public with a self-investigation tool kit, which enables residents to view noise and flight track information online to increase airspace understanding and tolerance.

CVG is a growing international airport operating on four runways, serving the Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana region. CVG has earned multiple best in class airport awards, including the Skytrax Best Regional Airport in North America award eight of the last ten years and the Air Cargo World 2020 Diamond Award for Air Cargo Excellence.
