Saab’s Deployable Aircraft Maintenance Facility Supplies Critical Aircraft and Vehicle Support Anytime, Anywhere
Whether in combat or disaster relief, U.S. armed forces and our allies are often deployed to remote, austere environments lacking the critical infrastructure needed to complete the mission. Enter Saab’s Deployable Aircraft Maintenance (DAM) facility.
Saab’s DAM facility provides mobile, self-sufficient maintenance and force protection capabilities for units operating in remote environments. Combat-proven since 2002, the DAM structure is a lightweight, modular and adaptable system comprised of three major components:
1. Hangar
2. Maintenance containers
3. Saab’s Barracuda multispectral protection camouflage system
These components work together to create an agile deployable system that can adapt to any scenario, including aircraft and vehicle maintenance, humanitarian mission support, disaster relief and tactical command and control.
The Deployable Aircraft Maintenance (DAM) facility addresses a critical need in modern operations
Saab developed DAM to answer a pressing challenge: how do you maintain operational readiness when fixed infrastructure isn’t available, or is at risk?
Traditional hangars and maintenance depots offer critical capability but are costly, static and vulnerable. DAM was engineered to bridge that gap, delivering essential and quality support in the field, wherever the mission requires.
“When operating in remote environments, you need to be sure that your equipment is operational and your base is protected against detection, so that you and your team can achieve mission success and return home safe. This is why Saab built DAM. It provides soldiers and airmen with capabilities that are similar to stationary maintenance infrastructure. DAM is also equipped with our Barracuda camouflage system – and provides a capability at a fraction of the cost of what is currently on the market,” said Dan M., a business development manager at Saab, Inc.
A versatile solution for the battlefield and beyond
While designed with combat operations in mind, DAM’s applications extend far beyond the battlefield. The facility enables rapid response when infrastructure is compromised or destroyed, such as in disaster relief or aid missions. DAM’s flexible and modular design also support other key operational capabilities such as its application as a corrosion protection and control facility for aircraft and vehicles.
As a multi-use facility, the hangar can be adapted as a care unit for 180 patients or an intensive care unit for 90 patients.
Key capabilities at a glance:
· Rapid deployment: Can be assembled by just nine personnel without heavy machinery.
· Transportability: Capable of deployment by air, land, railway and sea.
· Multi-purpose shelter: Hangar can accommodate fighter aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles and land vehicles. Depending on the mission, it can also act as a CBRN decontamination unit, field hospital, mobile command unit, and air terminal operations center.
· Sealed support modules: Customizable ISO-20 ft maintenance containers for workshops, storage and mission-specific functions.
· Structural resilience: Lightweight metal structure and Barracuda camouflage cover engineered to endure extended deployments.
· Force protection: Integrated Barracuda multispectral camouflage conceals against visual, near infrared, thermal, ultraviolet, and radar detection.
Proven in the field
The DAM is a proven solution trusted by NATO allies, including Sweden, Italy, Hungary, and Bulgaria.
Since its introduction in 2002, it has supported missions ranging from national defense to border enforcement, disaster relief and international deployments. Its performance demonstrates reliability across desert, tropical and winter environments.
Redefining maintenance in dispersed operations
With Saab’s Deployable Aircraft Maintenance Facility, maintenance capability is no longer tethered to geography. It’s a resilient, modular, and stealth-protected system that provides home-base reliability in the most demanding environments.
When every minute counts and every environment challenges your readiness, DAM deploys when and where you need it. Anytime. Anywhere.
