French-Swedish order for series production of BONUS

French-Swedish order for series production of BONUS The Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV) has awarded Bofors Weapon Systems AB, Sweden, and the French company GIAT Industries, a contract for series production of the intelligent artillery shell designated BONUS. The negotiations were conducted in close co-operation with Direction Général l'Armament (DGA) the French equivalent to FMV. FMV is the contract signee for both countries requirements. This now signed contract for series production of the BONUS shell is the result of many years of R&D work performed by both of the above companies, within the framework of a joint Industrial Co-operation Agreement signed between France and Sweden at the beginning of the 1990's. BONUS is a top-attack field artillery shell for combating armored targets such as Main Battle Tanks and other armored vehicles. The shell is fired from a great distance away in to the target area, where it ejects submunitions each projectile at it from above. The Parties have contracted to purchase 9000 BONUS shells. The total cost for the programme, including development, tests and trials is 2 700 MSEK. DGA and FMV will each bear their own costs in proportion to the quantities ordered by their respective countries. Deliveries will commence towards the end of the year 2001, and the final delivery will be made in year 2008.
