A new "boost" for the Saab antishipmissile RBS15
A new "boost" for the Saab antishipmissile RBS15 Saab Bofors Dynamics have signed an agreement with Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and the Finnish Naval Headquarters for the acquisition of improved boost rocket motors for the RBS15 system. The motors will replace the present motors on the RBS15 systems in the Swedish and Finnish navies and will also be used for the new RBS15 Mk3 systems. The selected motor supplier is ROXEL France, a French subsidiary of ROXEL SAS, having a wide experience in developing rocket motors for tactical missiles. The new motor design involves significant improvements in areas such as Insensitive Munitions and exhaust plume signature. The order value is approximately 10 MEUR. - We are very pleased to continue our exceptionally good co-operation with the Finnish Navy and FMV in yet another project says Gunnar Språng, Vice President Air/Sea Missile Systems. The RBS15 family, with its latest member Mk3, is a highly sophisticated Anti-Ship Missile system which can engage targets at long ranges (200+ km) during day and night under all weather conditions. The missile possesses a high hit probability by the incorporation of a flexible pre- launch programmable intelligent seeker with outstanding ECM resistance. It has a high defence penetration capability by a stealthy approach featuring very low terminal trajectory with a set of evasive manoeuvres and re-attack. It is designed to operate in naval scenario ranging from blue water to littoral warfare including naval land attack missions. The new boost rocket motor is in line with the continuos improvement of the RBS15 Mk3 system, with which Saab Bofors Dynamics has the ambition to fulfil and exceed expectations from present and future customers in the coming decades. Saab is one of the world's leading high-technology companies, with its main operations on defence, aviation and space. The group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capability in systems integration.
