Australia orders additional air defence systems from Saab

Australia orders additional air defence systems from Saab Saab Bofors Dynamics has received a follow-on order from Australia. Saab received an order from Australia in May 2003 for the RBS 70 air defence missile system. Now Saab Bofors Dynamics has secured a follow-on order for the BOLIDE missile for the RBS 70 system. The order, worth approximately MSEK 150, means that over a short period of time orders for the RBS 70 system have been received from the Australian customer for a total of approximately MSEK 600. "Naturally we are both proud and pleased that our RBS 70 system is very successful on the export market. We have been awarded a number of important contracts despite tough international competition," says Ingemar Andersson, the President of Saab Bofors Dynamics. BOLIDE is the latest version of the missile for both the man-portable RBS 70 system and the mechanized ASRAD-R system, the result of a joint venture between Saab Bofors Dynamics in Karlskoga and STN Atlas in Bremen. The two companies secured a contract with Finland for both systems in 2002. The current orders secure the level of operations at the Saab Bofors Dynamics facilities in Karlskoga but are not expected to result in new recruitment. Saab is one of the world's leading high-technology companies, with its main operations focusing on defence, aviation and space. The group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capabilities in systems integration.
