Saab and Serco win order worth EUR 50 million

Saab and Serco win order worth EUR 50 million Saab Training Systems AB, Huskvarna, Sweden and Serco GmbH & Co. KG, Bonn, Germany, have won the contract for running the German army's combat training centre GÜZ. Saab Training Systems' part of the contract, worth EUR 30 million, covers training, technical operations, and support for all simulation equipment at the facility. "We are proud to be selected in keen competition with other suppliers to run Germany's central combat training centre. For our part this means a broadening of our selection of services, as we will also take care of other suppliers' systems. We are convinced that GÜZ will be a hub for European combat training where military personnel from different countries can easily train with our interoperable solutions," says Johan Ohlson, CEO for Saab Training Systems. The German army has purchased Saab's laser simulator systems for education and training purposes for the past fifteen years and has now made the decision to outsource all operations and support at GÜZ to commercial companies. GÜZ (Gefechtübungszentrum Heer) in Altmark will also be used as a combat training centre by other countries, mainly within NATO. This new contract means that Saab Training Systems will take care of operations and support for previously delivered Saab systems as well as systems from other suppliers. The contract runs from January 1, 2004, to August 30, 2008. Saab is one of the world's leading high-technology companies with its main operations focusing on defence, aviation and space. The group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capability in systems integration. Saab Training Systems develops, manufactures and markets advanced military training equipment such as laser simulator systems, instrumented training systems and target equipment, and provides service and maintenance for delivered systems.
