Saab Aircraft Leasing Sells Two Saab 340BPlus' to Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) Saab Aircraft Leasing (SAL) announced today an order for two Saab 340BPlus aircraft for Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV). SAL won an international Request For Proposal (RFP) process to supply the two aircraft. Both 30-seat turboprops are scheduled for delivery during early spring 2004. The Swedish FMV intends to replace its three remaining Beech 200 King Air aircraft with the two Saab 340BPlus'. One aircraft will be stationed at F-21 in Luleå and the other at F-17 in Kallinge. Both will be used for transportation of personnel both within Sweden and throughout Europe. SAL has contracted Saab Aircraft in Linköping to completely overhaul both aircraft as well as incorporate new modifications and Service Bulletins according to the requirements of the Swedish FMV. Swedish Defense Forces currently operate one Saab 340B for "Open Sky" operations as well as six Saab 340B-AEW units. The "Open Sky" aircraft was extensively modified by Saab Aircraft last year under a contract with the Swedish FMV. Saab Aircraft Leasing President Michael Magnusson states, "This contract is a good example of the resources that SAL has to source aircraft that meets the specific requirements of a potential customer. The FMV had very strict requirements as to the age and maintenance status of the aircraft. SAL was able to quickly identify three suitable aircraft and offer a choice too. Following on site inspections, the Swedish FMV was able to pick the two most suitable airframes and declare SAL the winner of the RFP process."
