Saab wins order worth over MSEK 500 for new tactical support and training system for Gripen

Saab wins order worth over MSEK 500 for new tactical support and training system for Gripen Saab and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration are today signing a contract worth just over MSEK 500 for development and production of a tactical support and training system for the Gripen fighter. The concept can be used from basic training to advanced tactical training. The new concept is called PETRA (Planning, Evaluation, Training, Rehearsal and Analysis) and can be used for planning and evaluating missions, basic training and rehearsal exercises, mission rehearsal in training and analysis of tactical scenarios. "With PETRA we are offering our customers a total concept for planning, evaluation and simulator support for the Gripen, which fully comply with the software in the aircraft. This will also eliminate unnecessary adaptation of the software to the simulator. This is why Gripen is one of the most cost-effective fighter aircraft on the market," says Johan Lehander, head of Gripen operations at Saab Aerosystems. In connection with its focus on exports of the Gripen fighter, Saab initiated development of a support system for planning and evaluation of Gripen flight mission and a new training simulator for the JAS 39 C/D, the latest versions of the fighter aircraft. In conjunction to this, the Swedish Armed Forces has called for the same standard for their JAS 39 C/D. Saab, FMV and the Armed Forces has succeeded in harmonizing these demands so PETRA can operate both for the Swedish Armed Forces and for every export costumers as well. PETRA will be delivered to Sweden, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Deliveries will take place continuously between 2004 and 2007. Saab is one of the world's leading high-technology companies, with its main operations focusing on defence, aviation and space. The group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capabilities in systems integration.
