Saab in major ANZAC Frigate contract

Today the Australian Government announced that Saab Systems in Australia has received an order for upgrade of the ANZAC class frigates. As Saab previously announced in the Interim Report 21 April, the value of the contract is in excess of AU$120 million. Saab Systems will lead the development of an advanced combat systems capability as part of the ANZAC Alliance, which also includes the Defense Materiel Organisation and Tenix Defense.

”We have been working with the ANZAC Frigate program since 1990, continually upgrading the ship’s capability by introducing Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile, Advanced Harpoon Weapons Control System, Mine Obstacle and Avoidance Sonar and Nulka Systems. All this has resulted in the ANZAC class frigates being one of the world’s most capable frigates. Importantly it has once again demonstrated Saab’s ability to form effective business partnerships with the best possible outcomes for the customer,” said Saab Systems Vice President Naval Systems, Mr. Merv Davis. The new project announced by Government will include an upgrade of the Combat Management System, in addition of an Infra Red Search and Track capability and improvements of the existing Saab Fire Control System. It will use Saab’s leading edge Mk3 E Combat Management System and integrate new sensors and improve the ship’s performance so that it can meet the defense requirements of the 21st Century.
