Saab Training Systems wins contract for MOUT system
The Royal Netherlands Army has awarded Saab Training Systems of Huskvarna, Sweden a contract for a Military Training in Urban Terrain (MOUT) system. The system will allow the Royal Netherlands Army to conduct realistic exercises and further develop its doctrine in the Marnehuizen training village.
“We are proud to have been selected for this order, which constitutes a market penetration for a training concept that now may be introduced worldwide,” says Dan Sundqvist, Vice President, Saab Training Systems. ”The Royal Netherlands Army is an important customer and has been a partner for many years.” The MOUT system provides the capability for tactical training in urban areas, enabling all direct fire, indirect fire and area weapons to be simulated, controlled and monitored within a realistic scenario. The system will enable improvements in operational and mission skills for soldiers and officers. MOUT capability provides effective tactical training in urban environments with high levels of realism. Units can seamlessly move from open terrain into urban areas using the same instrumented training system. The total contract value for the complete system is SEK 62 million, partially awarded in 2004, and it is distributed between equipment supplies, and operational and logistic support for three years. The MOUT System will be in service no later than January 2006. This contract complements the Mobile Combat Training Center (MCTC) contract, which was awarded to Saab in June 2000 at a value of SEK 566 million. The MCTC contract has been successfully delivered on time and has been in service since 2003.
