Redundancy talks at Saab in Linköping complete
Negotiations between Saab AB and Metall – the Swedish Metalworkers’ Union – are now complete. Of the 350 people given notice on 8 June 2005, 146 employees will be leaving the company.
The reason for the action is a decrease in work. Development and production of the JAS 39 Gripen fighter, one of Sweden’s largest industry projects of all time, has entered a new phase. Manufacturing for export is continuing but does entail an adjustment of production volumes. “It is always sad to have to lose co-workers. However, Saab has been working intensively to minimize the notices as far as possible, including around 200 individual agreements to leave the company voluntarily. We will of course do everything we can to support the people who are affected by the move in any case,” says Roger Lantz, Vice President, Human Resources at Saab in Linköping. The job losses relate to production employees in the legal entity Saab AB in Linköping, which encompasses the business units Saab Aerosystems and Saab Aerostructures, Saab Aerotech (formerly Saab Aircraft), and Saab Support in Linköping.
