Gripen – a catalyst for Danish industry

Saab is planning for extensive industrial collaboration with Danish industry in connection with an eventual Gripen deal. As a part of this Saab has signed a significant co-operation agreement with Terma, valued to more than 10 BDKK (1,9 BUSD), spread over 10-15 years.

In the next few years Denmark will be renewing its aircraft fleet and the deal could cover as many as 48 fighter aircraft. Saab is offering Gripen Next Generation which is now under development, a fully Nato compatible aircraft that fulfills all Danish requirements. The aircraft can be delivered from 2016 or earlier if Denmark so wishes.

A Gripen deal will generate extensive co-operation and development of new technologies together with Danish industry, both in the area of defence and other industries. The co-operation agreement with Terma, valued to more than 10 BDKK (1,9 BUSD) spread over 10-15 years, covers the areas of aviation, space, defence and civil security. Parts of the agreement are dependent on Denmark selecting Gripen Next Generation.

“We are convinced that our offer is the best alternative for Denmark. Saab offers Danish industry a strong and long term profitable industrial co-operation, exceeding the requirement of 100 percent of the order value of a Gripen deal”, says Saab’s CEO Åke Svensson. “The industrial collaboration carries with it an historic opportunity for broader Scandinavian co-operation.”

“The agreement between Terma and Saab covers very interesting and long term perspectives, both in relation to Denmark’s purchase of new fighter aircraft and to a number of other business areas that can be advantageous to both parties”, says Jens Maaløe, CEO of Terma.
