Saab supplies surface-to-surface missiles to Poland

Poland has received the first missiles within the frame of the offset contract established in conjunction with the RBS 15 Mk3 order. Poland will be the second NATO country to use the naval surface-to-surface missile.

In October 2006 a contract was signed between Saab Bofors Dynamics and the Polish Ministry of Defence regarding the RBS15 Mk3 naval surface-to-surface missile. Within the framework of the offset contract that was negotiated, representatives of the Polish navy took possession of a number of RBS15 MkII missiles, which are a previous version of the RBS15 Mk 3, at a ceremony on Muskö. The missiles will arm Poland’s ORKAN class corvettes and will be exchanged for the RBS15 Mk3 when they are delivered in 2009.

“The hand over of these first RBS15 missiles marks the first, important stage of a long term collaboration between Saab and the Polish navy”, says Tomas Samuelsson, Managing Director of Saab Bofors Dynamics AB.

In conjunction with deliveries of RBS15 Mk3 at the beginning of 2009, Poland will be the second NATO country, together with Germany, to be a user of the powerful and multi-role naval surface-to-surface missile. The missile has a range of more than 200 km and also the capability to target land-based objects.
